Grafana data source
The Opservo data source lets you chart any of the 80+ server metrics Opservo collects inside the Grafana dashboards you already have. You connect it once with an API token, then pick a metric and the servers you want in each panel. The token never leaves your Grafana server.
What it queries
The plugin is backend-less. Grafana’s plugin proxy adds your Opservo API token to every request, so the browser never sees the token and no extra service runs. It calls three endpoints, all scoped to your workspace:
- •
GET /api/v1/metrics/catalogue— every metric with its unit, group and whether it has history. - •
GET /api/v1/metrics/query?metrics=…&agent_ids=…&hours=…— time series in buckets, one series per server. - •
GET /api/v1/agents/— the server list for the Servers picker.
Each server comes back as its own series, named by its display name or hostname, with agent_id and hostname labels. Grafana overrides, transforms and alert rules work on them as on any other series.
Install the plugin
The plugin is not yet listed in the Grafana plugin catalogue, so it is installed as a local, unsigned plugin. Email hello@getopservo.com for the current build. Then:
- 1.Copy the plugin folder into your Grafana plugins directory as
getopservo-opservo-datasource/. - 2.Add
allow_loading_unsigned_plugins = getopservo-opservo-datasourceto the[plugins]section ofgrafana.ini. - 3.Restart Grafana. The plugin needs Grafana 10.0 or newer.
Connect it
- 1.In Opservo, open Account → Developer → API tokens and create a token. It starts with
opv_and is shown once. See API tokens. - 2.In Grafana, go to Connections → Data sources → Add data source → Opservo.
- 3.Set API URL to
https://api.getopservo.com. - 4.Paste the token into API token. Grafana stores it encrypted and never sends it to the browser.
- 5.Click Save & test. You should see “Connected — N metrics available”.
Build a panel
In any panel, choose the Opservo data source. The query editor has two fields:
- •Metric — grouped by CPU, Memory, Disk, Network, Web, Services, Containers, Security, Updates, Databases, System and Health. Only metrics with history can be charted over time; per-mount, per-service, per-container, per-database-instance and per-domain values are latest-only.
- •Servers — leave empty for every server in the workspace, or pick specific ones.
The panel’s time range sets the history window, from 1 hour up to 30 days. Points are bucketed on the server side; a wider range returns wider buckets.
If something does not work
- •“Save & test” fails: the token is revoked, mistyped or missing its
opv_prefix. Create a new one; revoking the old one is immediate. - •A metric shows no data: the server has not reported that block yet (for example no MySQL on the box), or the metric is latest-only and the panel asks for history. Switch the panel to a table or stat visualisation.
- •Plugin does not appear after restart: check the folder name is
getopservo-opservo-datasourceand the unsigned-plugin line is ingrafana.ini.
