Is my website up?
Check any website from outside your network: HTTP status, response time, every redirect hop and the certificate, in plain English. Then, if you want, have it checked every minute for free.
Connect a server to watch this all the time
This is one check, right now. An Opservo uptime monitor checks the same address every minute from the cloud, confirms a failure before it pages you, keeps the history and SLA, and, with the agent on the server, says why it went down and offers the fix. Uptime monitors are free.
Questions
Is the site down for everyone or just me?+
This check runs from our server, outside your network and your ISP. If it says the site is up and you cannot reach it, the problem is between you and the site: your DNS cache, a firewall, a VPN or your provider. If it says down, everyone sees the same.
What does the response time mean?+
It is the time from opening the connection to receiving the first byte of the response, including DNS and the TLS handshake, measured from our server. Under about 800 ms is normal for a healthy page; several seconds usually means a slow database query, an exhausted PHP-FPM or Node worker pool, or a server that is swapping.
Why does it stop at a redirect?+
It follows up to three redirects, re-checking each destination, and shows every hop so you can see a loop, a redirect to the wrong domain or a jump from HTTPS back to HTTP. A chain longer than three hops is reported as a possible loop.
What does HTTP 502 or 503 mean?+
The web server (nginx, Apache, a load balancer) is up but the application behind it is not answering: the app process crashed, the worker pool is full, a deploy is in progress or the disk is full. The server is reachable, so an uptime ping alone will not tell you which; the Opservo agent on the server does.
How do I monitor a website continuously for free?+
Add it as an uptime monitor in Opservo. HTTP, API, TCP, ping, DNS and domain checks, SSL-expiry alerts and cron heartbeats are included on the Free plan with no card. Alerts go to Slack, email, a webhook or your phone, and the check is confirmed before it pages you.
